Basic Requirements

Minimum age
requirement: 18 years old. (An official photo ID or birth
certificate must be presented at the time of application.)

Physical Health
requirements: An applicant must be able to perform the work of the
trade, pass a physical exam and drug test after being offered
employment.

Educational
requirements: One must pass a general aptitude test consisting of
reading, mechanical reasoning, spatial relations and basic math
(addition, subtraction, division and multiplication of whole
numbers, fractions, decimals and percents.) The test is given by
Ranken Technical College and their fee is $40.00. The Apprentice
Program receives no part of this fee.

Each applicant
should have immediate access to a telephone and reliable

The Program
The Sheet Metal
Workers’ Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program is offered by the St.
Louis Sheet Metal Workers’ Joint Apprenticeship Committee.
The Program
is 10,000 Hours with a six-month probationary period.

Career Description
Sheet Metal Workers are employed in
residential, commercial and industrial construction activities.
Their work
involves:
- Fabricating and installing heating, ventilating
and air conditioning systems.
- Testing, adjusting, and balancing of
those systems.
- Fabrication and installation of
architectural sheet metal items on
the exterior of buildings.
- Fabrication and installation of
specialty items for manufacturing and commercial industry.
